Swapping a tub for a shower is a bathroom remodel, not a new kind of project. Concord requires a building permit for a bathroom remodel, including a replacement.
What our count of city permit records shows
Our count of City of Concord permit descriptions, pulled from the Accela portal on October 3, 2026, found 18 applications from October 2024 through September 2025 and 19 from October 2025 through September 2026 that explicitly describe converting a tub to a shower. Those sit inside 306 and 343 bath, shower, or tub remodel applications, about 6 percent. This is our keyword count of free-text descriptions, not an official city statistic. A spot check of 20 records in the wider kitchen and bath set found no false positives. The method excludes ADUs, new homes, fire damage, and commercial work.
The count is not a promise that your conversion is one of those records, and it is not a price. Concord's permit rule is separate: IB-022 requires a building permit for a bathroom remodel, including a replacement. The broader bath page is bathroom remodeling. Permit differences in the next cities over are in the permit guide.
