Refresh or full kitchen remodel in Concord, CA

The minor kitchen figure

The 2025 Cost vs. Value Report lists a minor kitchen remodel, midrange, at $31,804 in the San Francisco metro. A local 2026 price guide lists a cosmetic refresh at $30,000 to $55,000. That is the band behind "a refresh often starts around $30,000." It covers cabinets, counters, and similar surface work in the guides we cite, for a kitchen of about 120 to 200 square feet in the local guide. It is not a quote. The page for that scope is kitchen refresh.

The major kitchen figures

The same Cost vs. Value report lists a major kitchen remodel, midrange, at $97,667, and an upscale major kitchen at $192,231. The local guide lists a full replacement on the same layout at $55,000 to $95,000, a layout change at $95,000 to $150,000, and full custom at $150,000 and up. Together, the metro major-midrange figure and the local same-layout and layout bands are why a full kitchen is described as commonly about $55,000 to $100,000 for planning. Your contract can fall outside that band. See kitchen remodeling and layout changes.

The permit does not follow the price

Concord requires a building permit for a kitchen remodel, including a replacement, whether the project is a refresh or a full gut, and it requires GFCI protection. Pleasant Hill's FAQ says cabinets, countertops, and backsplash alone do not need a permit, and an electrical permit is required for the electrical upgrade when any part of the kitchen is remodeled. Read the permit guide before you treat a small project as exempt.

A bath is a separate published figure

A midrange bath remodel model project cost in the 2025 Cost vs. Value bathroom report is $32,160. An upscale bath model project cost is $97,394. Those are not kitchen prices. The bath page is bathroom remodeling.
